| | Shinhwa - Liar | ] | I've decided that this journal is too confining, and that I need a ch-ch-ch-change ^_^ As a consequence, I created a new journal, ai_weili , which I think will provide a better fit for my current and emerging self. (That only sounded slightly pretentious...)
I don't have the time right now (yay workload!) to run through and friend everyone, and I'm not even sure if everyone even desires to remain friended, as I've detected a lot of changing views towards lj in most people around me. If you'd like to keep on, I'll friend you back ^_^
After I figure out how to save the entries in this journal, I'll probably delete it. So, much love to everyone who read lotsokarma's ramblings. May the future bring peace, land, and bread love, and prosperity to you all! |

- Went to kendo on Wednesday. Everybody was a dan something or other, and so I felt v. inadequate and lowly, but they were nice about it. Was surprised to find that yes, Kendo is in Japanese, not Korean, and that the practice drills were not the same! *gasp*
-Went to Tae Kwon Do today. It kicked ass! Punching, kicking and making funny breathing noises has brought new purpose to my dismal existence.
-Am not failing Chinese.
- Received nasty shock today - actually need to do work for my writing seminar.
-Am now going to be antisocial and do homework with Siya on a Friday night. Go us! |

| Another crazy day! |
[Sep. 5th, 2004|01:17 am] |
| [ | Jammin' to: |
| | Jay Chou - Wo De Di Pan | ] | I was reading this book of translated primary sources for my history classes, and apparently on the oracle bones (for divination purposes they would take an ox's scapula and take a hot prod to it so they could read the cracks) they would record the question and the reading. My favourite is "There is a sick tooth; it is not Father Yi [the twentieth king, Wu Ding's father] who is harming [it]." Ha ha!
Among my other favourite passages was one about the Spring and Autumn period where this Officer Feng is retreating with his two sons, and he tells them not to look back at the battle. Well, they do and see another officer whose chariot flipped or something to that effect and they mentioned it, saying they should go back and get him. Well their father was so mad he pointed to a tree nearby and said, "Leave your corpses there.;" He then gave his chariot to the officer to escape. Then, the next day Feng found the corpses of his sons beneath that very tree.
At any rate, tonight, after a three hour expedition to the mall, dinner with Siya, Robert, and a geologist who went to China over the summer, I was distracted by entrancing, arabian dance music, and walked over to the Arabian Partay!
I tried my best to belly dance. This was, of course, not hard enough! However, I'm now in love with those jingly belts the girls wear, and am so planning on signing up for the belly dancing gym class next semester.
Also, having found myself in a trying new and crazy things mood this weekend, I partook in the smoking of the hookah! It was apple flavored and kind of weird... I can still taste it in my mouth!
Me: How do you do this? Lady: Oh, just like regular smoking. Me:... Lady: Here! *hands over mouth piece* Me: I've never smoked before. Everyone around me: WHAT? Me: uh...
That was a beautiful moment.
I also heard the most interesting story tonight from a boy who while meaning to transfer 400 from his parents' account to his own, accidently typed in 40,000. Ha ha! Apparently, his parents merely called him up and asked, "Was there any reason you needed $40,000?"
Woah - I need to do more homework so badly! I'm so horrible at responding to people who call my cell phone. |

| Brief update! |
[Sep. 1st, 2004|11:23 pm] |
I just read about something, and it's totally blowing my mind, so I thought I'd share!
Since the chinese have a logographic script rather than a phonetic one, it didn't change over time to reflect changes in pronounciation like a phonetic one would, so the literate elite could read writings from centuries earlier with no problem and even what was written by contemporaries whose spoken languages were incomprehensable!
Ha ha, maybe you had to read through a few pages on boring bronze work to have a "wow moment" with that, but oh well!
Tonight I said, "Screw you, you not happening kendo club!" And practiced on my own, in the dark, on the street outside Donlon Hall. It was great fun! Rachel was my proxy master Im ^_^
In probably one of the most interesting episodes of the night, I walked into donlon and to get in had to knock on the door, and use a lost, puppy dog expression. The guy who opened it decided to make a joke, "Gee, I didn't know whether to let you in or not, I mean you could have a sword in that bag!" I kind of laughed, said "actually" under my breath and "thanks" really loudly before losing him in the crowd - ha ha!
Now, I give up on homework till tomorrow morning. So sorry, my darling text books. |

[Aug. 27th, 2004|10:32 am] |
It's the second day of classes. Every day starts with a lecture at 9:05 for me. So, when I wake up at 9:12, it is a very dark moment in my new, collegiate history. My hair is a mess, glasses askew, jeans fresh from the floor, and shirt from the top of the drawer, I don't even lock my room as I sprint to class. Once I arrive, I'm pointed to the front corner of the room, so everyone can stare as I sweat profusely in front of them.
LOTS OF FUN TODAY!
Ha ha, I still love Cornell. |

| | Kelly Chen - Techno Song | ] | Dear Cornell,
Thank you for making scheduling a nightmare. I really appreciate it. I'd always heard that little play on your name, "the big red tape", and sort of chuckled to myself in amusement. Now, the thought of this brings about a desire to throw myself at sharp, shiny objects. Thanks for marring my past 24 hours. I hope we can do this again sometime, like, say, before next semester. Does that work for you? Good! Pick me up at 8!
Love, Vickie
Scheduling has been something akin to standing against a wall and having a blind man throw daggers at you. Though I’d chosen quite a few writing seminars I liked, by the time I had signed up for class sections that were not filled with regards to my other classes, only the crap writing seminars were left. HA HA. Actually, my first choice is good. Shakespeare! But, if I have to read MacBethy again, I’ll scream.
In addition, I will scream because someone stole THE SCREAM, that most wonderful painting.
I will, on the other hand, breathe a sigh of relief due to the professor in the filled Chinese history class being nice about “maybe” letting me in ^_^
Classes don’t start until tomorrow, but I have to meet with my Mandarin section already today! Oh dear!
I ventured to wall climb yesterday! AIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, except for the freak out about 3/5 to the top, I managed the climb ^_^ Then I played Frisbee!
I also signed up for Tae Kwon Do.
Also, have been picking up free stuff just because it’s free. Free things picked up so far include: -Free bible! -Free religious music cd! -Free silly puddy! -Free book about god! -Free make up kit, named Mark! He’s my boyfriend now. I saved him from a burning building! By this, I mean a dorm in which the fire alarm had been pulled as a prank. I’m a dutiful girlfriend. -Free food! Everywhere I go there’s free food! |

| [ | Jammin' to: |
| | We be jammin'! | ] | Sorry I’ve been so lax about the updating. I am finding college life to agree very much with my palate. That is, college life without the classes. Those don’t start for another few days. In the interim I really need a new phone since mine freezes just like windows and flashes me messages that say, “Network Busy” while I’m trying to call others. Thus, I need to get to pyramid mall and tell the cingular store that their service is truly craptacular, and as to their phones, “Thank you, sir! May I have another?”
I don’t even know what I’ve been so busy doing, but want to hear the utterly horrible news of the day. Vickie, seeing as how she’d like a job that’s not either (a) a lawyer or (b) a professor, has decided to double major in history and econ! Yay, practicality! Now, apparently, Vickie needs to take Calculus 112, and by doing thus it is certain she shall die! I love you all desperately :0
Having seen a few a capella groups, and having been mightily impressed, I took the opportunity to ask a blonde pony-tailed man doing a chalking about joining.
Me: Hey! What if I can’t really sing and just kind of do it in the shower? Him: Come to auditions! Me: *flails arms* *cowers* “Auditions” is a scary word! Him: Fine, just come and let us listen to you sing!
He then proceeded to give me some details, impress me with his strong handshake and tell me his name is Noah.
Have found a wonderful boy, Robert, with a cache of Ayumi Hamasaki videos and cds! “Inspiration” is such a bizarre vid! Speaking of Ayumi!
Umi:

Has fashion magazines w/ Ayumi on the cover:

The bubble tea here tastes like those Japanese candies, Hi-chews, mmm, so good:

And, Rachel, Siya, and I went to collegetown today to buy a ton of Cornell stuff, including really awesome tie-dyed, Cornell, t-shirts!

And, I’ve met and bonded w/ Allen, yet again! (SAMIES!)

My orientation leader is nutto, she told us to call her up if we want to go for a jog anytime or if we want to jump in the gorges!
Here’s a lovely frat waffle that I had the other night:

The penis graffiti has started already…
To conclude I must of course mention the embarrassing stories of the weekend! After the RA meeting on the first night, I decided to change, and after doing so, sit down at my lap top only to realize that my curtains were wide open and an RA meeting was going on in the hallway window at the dorm across the way. Go me! In a second round of embarrassment, I saw this boy at breakfast the other day, and then again while grabbing a drink at lunch. So, I decide to introduce myself –
Me: Hi! I saw you at breakfast earlier! I’m Vickie. Him: Hi. I’m Jerry. *extends hand for purpose of hand shaking* Me: *is filling up glass with pepsi* *attempts to manage pepsi and handshake at same time* *brain not efficient enough* *pepsi spills all over hand* *offers hand to boy* Oh! Sorry! That hand’s all pepsi’d! *retracts hand quickly and weakly shakes Jerry’s proffered hand* *Runs away*
Holy crap – calculus. In other news, the undergrad history director was so amusing at the open house tonight that I was seriously contemplating taking his course in Russian history. However, I think I’m going to go with China up to the modern times. Then I talked to a mandarin Chinese professor and she told me that I must go to class every day and work hard about five times. It was then I decided I love her for she reminds me of Master Im. Later I talked to two of the film teachers about film noir and Hitchcock.
Then, I danced! Danced a fiery dance with Joanne and Naomi! It was the awesome, but at the same time I can’t dance, so it was amazingly awkward ^_^
I can't wait for the kendo club to begin. I'm going to jump on them at the activities faire! |

| | My brother's foot | ] | You’ll never guess where we stopped for lunch Wednesday! That’s right, BIG BOY!!!!!!!!! In fact, it was the same Big Boy at which our Stratford Crew met up with Dr. Ash’s car. Pulling up to it, I thought to myself, “By golly gosh! But, that sign looks familiar!” However, I wrote that off as having been to way too many Big Boys the other magical, beauteous Big Boy that helped kick off our Stratford binge. Unfortunately, disappointment haunts my every move, and strawberry festival is over. Why this surprised me to such an inordinate degree is quite beyond my car trip mushed mind at this point.
Until my head began to ache like some sort of besieged castle, large sections of rock flying off into the air while Sharpe tries to prove his valor, I was watching DVDs with my brother. We started with this movie, The Eighth Samurai, but after twenty minutes of blood sacrifices, twisted legends, attempted “I just noticed you’re a girl and not a boy” acquaintance rape, and worst of all DUBBING, we gave up on it and switched to Moon Warrior. That, my not quite so gentle reader, was a glorious movie! Lots of Crouching Tiger-esque sword action. Fei, the most intelligent man in his fishing village, who makes a wicked shark soup, ends up fending off a bunch of assassins sent to murder the emperor’s brother, since he was deposed by his evil* brother, but never properly finished off so that he couldn’t regain the throne if he tried or anything like that. Thus follow many sword fights, spies, a princess, and above all Fei communes with this killer whale, Hoiwai, who he later throws a bucket at when he’s frustrated. I enjoyed it whole heartedly until Hoiwei saved the day by means of hitting the evil emperor over the head with his tail. Well, he didn’t really save the day then, but I just couldn’t get over that a killer whale jumped out of the water for the purpose of smacking the evil emperor.
Then, we started For a Few Dollars More, another one of Clint Eastwood’s Spaghetti westerns until my head decided to go and commit seppuku. I have to say, I really admire it when a person knows, just instinctually, that someone is going to attempt to shoot through a door at him. It’s funny how clumsy the fight scenes seemed after watching Fei and Princess Moon fly all over the screen.
Someday, I’m going to not be lazy and write a really awesome script, thereby creating the best action movie EVER.
[2 hours or so later]
-have lost a game of chess to my brother – the chessmaster addict. He’s also been playing some game based upon the crusades. Every so often I hear, “You infidels! Get out of our land!”
-Have been worrying about lost knowledge and, moreover, lost history. I mean, knowledge can often be rediscovered, like c-sections, but history – freak out!
-This of course leads to wondering whether in the future we’ll return to our cultural roots, or become one global homogenous culture that moves like an amoeba and nobody will make swords, and I will cry.
-Layers of history, have been thinking about layers, like English history, and what will do in future when if return to cultural roots must pick one time periods aesthetics to return to per country, otherwise, is too confusing for the global community. Or is it? No, it isn’t, I was worrying needlessly there.
-All the songs on my play list remind me of times during the summer. Have resorted to really random techno songs and Ricky Martin.
-Need to improve chess skills…
-Wouldn’t it be funny if I posted my car delusions?
I just had a most brilliant idea – it is quite simply to be the person I would want to be. Isn’t that marvelous? I feel like I must have read that somewhere. Huh. This is so one of those “wow” ideas that’s exciting right when you think of it, but not so much after you write it down.
Have to say, the surprise of the night was the Italian speaking lesbians at dinner. Definitely quite a few double takes there while my parents continued talking about how nice it was that the Brits in the corner were drinking tea. Really, one had her hand down the other’s pants! Sheesh!
~Next day!~
I saw a bunch of water today! Niagara falls – ha ha.

It’s really not that impressive. Or, maybe it is, and it’s just the fact that they built this next to it:

Anyway, I couldn’t sleep last night because I was excited, so I gave up at 6 in the morning and began reading Master and Commander. OMG – Jack and Stephen are sooooooooooooo cute! I luvvles them ^_^ Their coffee house conversation was just one of the sweetest ones I’ve ever read.
“Now I wish you a good day and thank you for the excellent chocolate. I am so happy you saw your epop.” –Jack to Stephen
Guess who I saw when we checked into the hotel just now!!!!!!!!!! Miriam! mirala74 And there was much awkward embarressment as my mother asked if she was someone else and I had a paranoia attack over whether her name is Miriam or Mariam, and now, if fate is kind, this will not happen again. Sorry! Oh, but I feel really bad. I so always avoid saying names because of things like this.

Ah well, this morning, I got my camera phone! It's a really cute Samsung and it manages to plaster a grin on my face whenever I look at it. I love technilogical bells and whistles. They are so neccessary. Upon purchasing the phone, I immediately furrowed through the online ringtone store and can now say with the utmost sincerity, I have the best ringtone in the world, ever, period.
Did you guess it yet?
Okay, I'll tell you - RICKY MARTIN - La Copa de la Vida! SQUEEEEE!
This is like the Daily Show's moment of zen, only I'm going to give you another one RIGHT NOW:
This was a funny wrestler that I shamelessly took a picture of at the Korean Street Festival. Yeah, you're all wishing you went now, after seeing his expression!
Want more?
 I love this guy!!!!!!!!
Speaking of guys I love, I managed to secure a picture of hot kumdo guy! Admittedly, it does not do him justice in the slightest. It's, in fact, probably the worst ever taken of him, but that does not diminish my love! NO! Never! I, instead, cherish this photo as any 13 year old would her poster of Leonardo DiCaprio back in the day.
Ah! I love him, hold on while I stare at that.
Tee hee, that was taken with my new picture!Cell phone ^_^
So was this pic of Megan, drinking her bubble tea and looking Matrixy, as always.

For instance, yesterday I went to the Curiosa concert, so pumped to see Muse. Unfortunately, the guitarist had to go and break his hand, so they canceled on me fifteen minutes before their set! *cries a river* Oh well, I got to hear some new bands I knew not of, and I liked some :)
Alas, I did not manage to get a picture of the band whose lead singer danced as though he'd just recently escaped from an insane asylum, but I did get some of other bands, like ( The Rapture. ) Tee hee, he's trying to hit his butt with the musical instrument of doom!
( We also saw this band, Interpol, which I liked... )
And, then there was The Cure, which Eleanor flipped out over :P ( Pictures! )
( This man was most assuredly our favourite fellow concert attendee. )
Virtually all of kumdo was sparring today, and tomorrow's the Korean Street Festival xD
Right on, tonight I went to Elizabeth's birthday party and minigolfed it up! We mini-golfed, danced, ate, and lost touch with sanity! Elizabeth dressed in deer hide for the occasion. ( You sexy thang, you )
( And, here's me and Caroline being our crazy selves. )
And I love Allen more than anyone else at this moment because look at what he just said!!! Me: It's like, he's so *makes wild, nonsensical hand gestures*, and I'm so *makes even more wild hand gestures* and it just doesn't work because *jumps up and down, gesticulates, and screams* Allen: *understands* Allen: It will all be ok, Victoria. Allen: One day you will find your man who is a perfect ethnic mix of both the far east and the latin american and he will be glorious and he will also somehow be reminiscent of Alexander Hamilton and when he wants to make out with you he will say, "Care to duel?" and you will giggle saying, "Oh Pedro/Apu/Alexander, I thought you'd never ask!" |

However, that Nate was a blind octogenarian, and this Nate is not. This Nate must be continually amazed at how much of a dork I manage to reveal myself as!
An excerpt from our conversation as we descended the staircase, and exited the building: Hotalicious Nate: Are you very defensive in general? Me: Well, erm, uh, it depends... Hotalicious Nate: ... Me: Well, if someone were to slander Legolas, and call Orli gay and whatnot, yeah, but if it's something minor... Hotalicious Nate: Ha ha, yeah I noticed while we were sparring, once I start pushing, you're like a caged animal!
He called me a caged animal. Obviously this is a term of love? No? A little more than a sweet nothing, which he said so forthrightly while wearing his sketchy pimp shirt? *le sigh* tis only another example of unrequited crushage, pffft!
Tonight I watched Ran with Rachel which included insane!Moses (Lord Hidetora) and samurai. Woe, woe is me, a desperate lack of one on one, duel to the death sword fighting occured! Still a good movie though.

In addition, I saw Restoration and am now completely enamored with Robert Downey Jr., the wig he wears in the movie, and the idea of wiggling people’s noses, the notion of which some people seemed to take offense at when I mentioned it, despite my facetiousness, and the fact that clearly only Charles II could get away with it. Bah. Communication is so defunct right now. Whatever, I have the best picture ever of Leah, Elizabeth and myself at the Ren Faire now :)
Guess who finished The Trial? Oh yeah, me! Mwa ha ha ha! Now I get to read The Princess Bride and squee like a little girl! (Essay? What essay?)
So, last night I was trying to figure out what could have possibly affected me psychologically as a child to make it so that I’m uncomfortable when complimented. I always tend to blame all my exaggerated psychological ills on my mother, but I can’t think of anything she did to cause this one! Perhaps I took all the children’s storybooks replete with Victorian morals of modesty completely to heart. *considers* That said, was complimented by the mother daughter kumdo duo today for my tire hitting skillz :P

| | L'arc~en~Ciel - Coming Closer | ] | Let me take this moment to express my undying love for the Wilmette theatre and the most beauteous event that is $3.00 Mondays. Tonight I saw Supersize Me and never want to eat McDonalds food again! Except for the French fries. I love the French fries. Besides that, I was astonished at how much only eating McDonalds for 30 days could screw up a person’s body. Ha ha.
It is now day #3ish of me reading The Trial, and by reading I mean skimming a paragraph and then spending the next ten minutes complaining to anyone close enough to hear about the terrible burden of reading a book in which the main character, K., annoys me to such a degree.
Over the weekend, I went with my parents to the Cingular store and found the most darling cellphone, which I need, and will hopefully obtain. If I do, I’ll be able to covertly take pictures of all the hotness I see when I head to the loop for my internship! xD
I’ve been having some of the strangest dreams lately, including, but not limited to: my neighbor trying to stab my mother in the backyard, but me saving her life via my awesome kumdo skills; me feeling v. awkward in a pub populated by die hard Cubs fans; and, me discovering that life, like the internet, can be manipulated by clicking on a bunch of windows, including one advertising a brothel known as “Napoleon! Napoleon!”, which featured a man lying on a pink couch with a Napoleon hat. How weird are my dreams?
At any rate, people should come to my house and watch Ran because I checked it out of the library, and now it needs viewing!
It’s interesting how everything I watch and read only manages to make me more dissatisfied with my own life. Not that I’d want the pain of pouring a bottle of vodka on my bullet wound during a car chase, a la Bourne Supremacy, or that I feel I need some sort of court conspiracy affecting someone I knew for gossips sake, but everything seems so tame lately. Mayhaps it was just today.
Oh man, 8 days till I leave for Cornell! *freaks out* |

| | Gackt - Oasis | ] | So, I'm taking this AlchoholEDU online course Cornell told me to take, and I naturally choose the names Arwen, Eowyn and Aragorn for a fun story scenario!

Congratulations! You have Leprosy! One of the trademarks of the Middle Ages, it is actually a hard to catch bacterial infection that you probably caught years ago through respiration. Now that it is making itself known, you have noticed white patches on your skin and numbness in your fingers. Things will only go from bad to worse as more areas become numb, making you prone to hurt yourself without knowing it and thus causing massive infections. The good news is you will be given a free bell or clapper! The bad news is you will need this as you travel the countryside unwanted in rags warning people of your approach.

| Fancy index tape! Fancy index tape! |

| | Se7en - Yul Jung (Passion) | ] | I finished Musashi! How I love that man for being so intense, intense to the point of carving a wooden sword out of an oar! Now I feel I should read The Five Rings, and then I should cut to the chase and retire to the mountains whence I will seek enlightenment. Nah, I'm lying.
I must share with you the best poem in the book!
"I laugh at my ten-year pilgrimage- Wilted robe, tattered hat, knocking at Zen gates. In reality, the Buddha's Law is simple: Eat your rice, drink your tea, wear your clothes."
Having checked pagination, The Trial appears to be less than 300. We all know this means I win! I’m excited to start it tomorrow and put some “fancy index tape” on every page because it’s so much fun! Har har, as you may have guessed, I went school supply shopping today!
I also went to my favourite place ever, the Glenview State Bank, and opened a checking/debit account thingamajig. Dear, kind Ms. Nesbitt was darling enough to help me with the process.
After some minutes of information giving: Ms. Nesbitt: Let me just confirm, your home phone number is 951-3somethingorother Me: Erm...no... Ms. Nesbitt: Oh. Well, why don't you give me the correct one then, we seem to have the wrong one listed. Me: *gives phone number* Ms. Nesbitt: Well, that’s funny none of this is matching your- Oh no!
Poor Ms. Nesbit lost somebody's home phone number! This is of course all rectified by my having the best pin number on the block. However, I can't tell you it, because I'm sworn to secrecy!
Oddly enough, I've been continuing my stint of viewing horribly trashy comedies, and saw Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Oh, how I laughed. I want to marry Harold's neurotic self :)
In other news, read the Cornell Sun today, and wrote an e-mail with my interest in mayhaps writing for the paper. :o I hope they don’t mind that I wasn’t part of the paper in high school.
I'll have to take a picture of my beautiful, new carrying case for my swords. AWWWW!!!!
Ick. I ate too many almonds today. |
